The Most Haunted Places in the World

Halloween is around the corner and we can all tell. The movies are filled with newly released horror flicks, pumpkins are showing up on every doorstep, themed decorations hang on every surface you pass and finally, you are hoping for a creepy ghost to prove their existence. Or perhaps that's just the more morbid type of people. Well, if you consider yourself as someone who belongs in that category, this article is for you. Here is a list of some of the most haunted places in the world, in case you want to pay a visit:

  • Eastern State Penitentiary, Pennsylvania: this 19th-century prison was one of the first to use solitary confinement as punishment. The measures were so hard in this prison that many prisoners became insane after treatment. Since the mid-20th-century however, there have been paranormal sightings in this prison, including the strange sounds and several sightings of strange figures.
  • The Tolbooth, Aberdeen, United Kingdom: this is a very dark place and has a spectrum of haunting stories, even before ghosts got involved. Tolbooth was a prison at first during the eighteenth century, but later on became a place where kidnapped children would be held hostage until they were sold to slavery. People who have visited this frightening place reported feeling a choking sensation around their necks, as well as several accounts of hearing chains rattling.
  • Raynham Hall, Norfolk, United Kingdom: a country house in England that is apparently haunted by the ghost of ‘Brown Lady’. After making her ‘debut’ and appearing in a photograph in Country Life, the ‘Brown Lady’ became a famous haunting attraction and one of the most popular ghosts of England.
  • Aradale Asylum, Ararat, Victoria, Australia: the asylum is famous for being a fortress that's as big as a village inside. There were reportedly over 13 000 inmates who died whilst being a patient, and there are speculations that foul play was involved. It has now become a tourist attraction where people claim to have not only heard and seen strange things but to have felt someone touching them.
  • Burg Wolfsegg, Wolfsegg, Germany: a castle haunted by a famous German ghost called the ‘White Woman’. Legend says she was brutally murdered by her jealous husband and now spends eternity scaring away anyone who visits the castle, making it an instant tourist attraction for horror seekers.

There are plenty of haunted places for you to investigate, but if you’re the type of person that likes to be scared without pursuing ghosts and Ouija boards, you should check out our online library www.vuify.com for our collection of horror books. Perhaps the most haunting place you’ll ever visit will be within the pages of a book.
